SoBe Fit Magazine Profile

I was so surprised when SoBe Fit Magazine approached me to do an interview for a profile in their magazine. After the initial shock, it made me so happy to know that a leading fitness magazine recognized and honored the fact that dancers are athletes too. We are an elite breed, and though we can never let on to the audience just how hard we’re working, we are constantly challenging our physical capabilities to the max.

We work in class every day to build strong muscle tone, without bulking up. We practice cardiovascular activities to keep our stamina up to get through long, aerobic ballets. Practicing proper nutrition is a MUST  to keep ourselves aesthetically slim, without compromising our strength, and we need to rest and recuperate just as any other athlete would.

I’m sure that some of SoBe Fit’s readers were surprised to see a ballet dancer in the midst of all of the body builders and sports players on the pages of the magazine, but I hope that they got to learn a little bit about how athletic ballet really is, and that they’ll have a new appreciation for the dancers the next time they come to a performance!
